The United States Bond Markets As of September 2003, the U.S. bond market was comprised of approximately $21.7 trillion dollars in debt spread across an array of corporate, asset-backed, government, and money-market fixed income securities. Investments in the U.S. bond market account for approximately 50% of all domestic investments, compared to equity investments which account for only 30%. The following chart details the components of U.S. fixed-income debt, in trillions of dollars, as of September 2003:
